Joan's on Third (brief review)

Funwithfood | Sep 27, 2004 01:14 PM

We happen to be near Joan's on Third last Saturday. I purchased several items reviewed below:

*Tuna Salad Sandwich w/Mustard Caper Sauce
Fabulous--probably the best tuna sandwich I have had!

*Butternut Squash Soup:
Under-seasoned, hence bland

*Venetian Coppa Salame w/Provolone & Olive Paste:
My husband said "You paid $10 for that!". This pretty much sums it up; small flat bread w/a bit of cheese and 3 thin slices of salami. Just didn't work for me--especially at that price.

*Macaroni & Cheese
Ordinary--Roscoe's is not TDF, but it is *much* better than this. Macaroni & cheese is my favorite food--I didn't even finish mine from Joan's. (In contrast, we all fought over the leftovers from Roscoe's.)

*Chocolate Filled Cupcake
Great looking, but dry and low on flavor--wholly disappointing.

*Pumpkin Cupcake
Outstanding! Moist, well-spiced, with a creamy cream cheese frosting.

*Mini Lemon Bundt Cake
Moist and a very nice lemon flavor. It is a small size and would be excellent served with tea.

*Chocolate Macaroon
Excellent

*Orange Chocolate Chip Bundt Cake
Dry, lackluster

*Fruit Tart
Pretty. Okay, but each bite left a greasy residue in my mouth which I found unpleasant.

*Pear Tart
Fabulous! Complex flavors & very moist.

*Strawberry Muffin
Okay, but a little doughy-tasting.

*Coconut Cupcake
There was on OD of almond extract in the frosting that totally detracted from the coconut flavor. Maybe someone added too much in this batch (?)

*Misc--The ordering system felt a a bit chaotic, and parking was *very* scarce.

I would go back for sandwiches and maybe just one pastry. The pastries seem to be their "weakest link".
