Jewel Bako--pretentious?

We had dinner there recently.
The sushi was excellent and the decor stylish, but it was ridiculously expensive. The appetizers, each of which was more than $10, had only one morsel.
The man who seemed to be the owner came to the table next to us to talk to the seemingly their loyal customers. He didn't seem to care that he had rudely his back to us. As he talked, his elbow poked my husband's shoulder.
Probably their sushi is one of the best in NY, but I don't think I'd go back there because they are pretentious.
In 80's, when the economy was good, there used to be a lot of restaurants like this in Tokyo.
