Which Japanese place for mtg friend who used to live in Japan?

Katie A | Feb 21, 2006 08:25 PM

Friend is visiting NYC soon, and wants to go to a Japanese (or Asian) place for dinner. She lived in Japan for two years, loves the cuisine, and speaks the language fluently.

Need decently attractive enough ambiance. No greasy bbq's or noodle places.

Approx $35/pp for food, drinks add'l.

She's working around 37th/ Madison, but could travel 5-10 mins.

Here are my thoughts:

Nobu 57
Chiyono (after reading the recent review, and she might be interested in homestyle)
Sushiden (after reading they have sunken tables)
Sushisay -- was last there 7 years ago, with a Japanese business friend, of course -- popular with that clientele!

Megu, Sumile, Geisha -- she might find the Japanese/ Asian fusion interesting and hip -- any preferences among these?

Sushi of Gari
Sushi Seki

Any recs among these or others?

Thank you!!
