Went inside Mitsuwa San Jose (Saratoga Ave) today and was surprised to see yet another mixed Japanese food fair. Overheard someone say this goes on till end of Sunday (tomorrow).
Did not try anything but saw:
Kani Inari Sushi - huge wooden container filled with a crab mixture. Chef was stuffing them into the bean curd pockets. Containers of about 8 pieces, if memory serves me right $10.99
Made and baked on the premise...Japanese sweet potato pie with apple filling. Looked great but I had no way of carrying this back without making other pit stops.
Osaka style tako yaki, freshly made and grilled on the premise. The lines were long here. Each cardboard box they sold held 10. Looked really good and authentic, though I don't know what is Osaka about it (based on Japanese TV soaps I've seen before).
Across from those booths was a showcase of goodies from Kobe. Neatly wrapped packages of assorted cookies and sweets.
Near the back right corner of the supermarket were various booths, including the deep fried croquettes and other related things, plus interesting products from various parts of Japan (even slices of konbu marinated tai, small package of 6 pieces, enough for 3 nigiri pairs).
So if you missed out on the Hokkaido Food fair a while back, do check this one out. I wonder if Mitsuwa's website has a calendar of when they have such events.
