Had nice pre-theater dinner at Jaleo Wednesday 26 Feb. I spent 10 days in Spain (Madrid and Zaragoza) with family (sister-in-law) over the holidays, and have been craving Spanish food ever since. Jaleo came through pretty well, even if the atmosphere is totally different. 8-)
The best: Pato con salsa de naranja. This is the confit-style duck -- different texture and color, but oh so good! (My sister-in-law's mother made a similar dish while we were at their house only hers had apples and not oranges in the sauce. But oh my -- the duck tasted exactly the same.)
Also, the mini-chorizos on the skewer over the garlic mashed potatoes. The chorizon was acceptable, but I could have eaten an entire pot of those wonderful potatoes ... I wanted to lick the plate clean! Friend said would pay me $10 if I did ... 8-)
Surtido de quesos. The cheeses were good, even if the three non-blues were rather similar. The blue (Picon) was so yummy, even if amazingly rich.
Their tortilla de patatas was quite acceptable, even if not quite as good as the ones my SIL makes. 8-)
We had some other things, but those were the standouts. Enjoyed the sangria very much -- not made with anything that shouldn't be in it like the experience of another poster at the Bethesda Jaleo.
