So went to Izayoi tonight, and actually ran into another chowhound. Just as a preface, we loved our meal, I think they were very disappointed with theirs.

We started by deciding to share everything.
First we had the homemade tofu - homemade very soft tofu curds with a complex sauce and chopped herbs. Wonderful
Next, the roasted duck with eggplant, 6 pairs of eggplant and duck slices. Big hit.
Goma-e came later, their version of sesame spinach, a winner, most sesame rich flavor i"ve ever had with this dish.
We had steamed clams in a light sake broth. Lots of sliced ginger, delicious.
Later, Matsudake (pine mushroom) soup, with a spot of yuzu. This was the priciest at $12.50. But it was my fave. Smoky and woodsy and clear and wonderful.
Lotus root, sliced in a thin sweet sauce. Guess what? delicious.
I think I"m forgetting a dish or two.
Then the sushi, 2 orders (four pieces) each of Kampachi (amberjack), mackerel, albacore and aji (spanish mackerel). The kampachi was my favorite, like chewy butter. Marvelous.
And two pitchers of kirin.
Total for 3 with tax and tap (and I am forgetting one or two dishes), $144. ($120 w/o tax). Our service was great, as soon as the dish was ready, out it came. Our friends at the other side of the resto- not quite so good. I don't think they will go back. I certainly will.
