F-ing Brilliant Doner Kebab/Shawarma at Habibah

Karam is decent, but their shawarma is, for my money, among the worst I've ever had. Disagree, take issue with, verbally attack, beat, maim, or set light to me, but I believe that profoundly unsubtle garlic sauce of theirs is applied with an all-too-reckless hand. Further, those pickles just _don't_ work.

Better by far is the newly re-opened Habibah on 5th (half a block north of Bay Ridge Ave. opposite Alpine Cinemas). You may recall it as a miserable shit-hole with an institutional green interior and a neck-high stack of anti-Israeli literature at the front door. The new management is much more estimable. The benevolence of the proprietor is unmistakable and the chef's artistry unequaled, at least locally.

The shawarma, the only dish I've had thusfar, is excellent. The cook freshly slices the shawarma, cuts the top 1/8th of a thin pita, and adds the spiced meat therein. You are encouraged to take ad libitum from a Gastronorm tub of excellent home made green chile sauce, and are told repeatedly that "salad is free." The salads included two eggplant-based varieties, a slaw, shaved onions with herb, tatziki, and a few others.
