Hi, I recently found this message board, I really enjoy reading it!
I've been looking for Indonesian food for a while and guess what happened ... I went to Bangkok Basil for some Thai food, saw some Indonesian sounding items, and discovered that they have a separate Indonesian menu!!
They offer some of the most popular and ubiquitous dishes in Indonesia. Not the gourmand kind by any stretch. These are dishes everybody knows, eats, and can get basically anywhere! Also, none of that rijstafel business - nobody eats like that in Indonesia!
I have only tried a few dishes on the menu: nasi goreng, nasi padang, ayam bali, and gado gado. They were not always my private favorite renditions, but they really hit all the right notes. I'll go back and try the rest. They only have a handful, or two, dishes in the menu.
!!! Beware, though, my usually-adventurous boyfriend really didn't like most of the dishes !!!
