Yesterday was my first visit to Indian Oven in Haight and I have to say I totally disliked the food. It was terrible--completely bland with no hint of any spice or the complex flavoring, which is what Indian food is all about.
I grew up in Indian, am vegetarian, very well versed with all kinds of Indian food. I must also say I am no spice monkey.. I prefer to eat food that is not hot but is well seasoned.
I ordered Paneer Tikka Masala (which had a milky taste to it and the gravy was watery) and Mushroom Peas that was again almost completely without any flavor.
Of course, a restaurant that had, with the exception of us, any other Indian folks there should have been a dead giveaway but I didn't realize the food would be so completely without flavor.
I have often read good reviews of Indian Oven and I am wondering why chowhounders like it?
