Best Indian in the region - Hyderabadi = less creamy than the usual Punjabi fare. Complex tastes, wonderfully spiced - even the biryanis are spicy. Hyderbadi biryani technique pressure cooks the protein before mixing-in the rice - a great approach for chicken or goat, but vegetables emerge as nondescript off-black paste. There are plenty of other excellent veg and paneer dishes for vegetarians, and Halal meat for the rest of us.
This place has a special genius for careful non-greasy deep-frying - the fried ("Gobi Mongolian") cauliflower is a must. "Gobi 65" is the same fried cauliflower, too heavily spiced, but the "65" treatment works brilliantly for chicken. The fish curries are pleasant, but I can't get excited over tilapia.
The dessert list includes some unusual ones ("Kurbani Ka Meeta" = fried bread in a creamy sweet fruit sauce). The buttery nan is also irresistable, as is the especially rich mango lassi..
The best way to experience this place is at the Saturday or Sunday buffet - a bit pricey at $14, but well worth it.
It's at 1218 Welsh Road, just down the road from Assi Plaza.
