Hubby and I tried out Blue Cow last night (its first official night). It's the latest from the Mendocino Farms folks, in the former Casa space Downtown on Grand Ave. We weren't very hungry, so we just had a few small things (and they were small, something to be aware of when ordering):
- Root Chips n'Dip: Nice colors and flavors, good dipping sauce.
- BBQ'd Brassicas: Broccoli and cauliflower florets smoked in a brown paper bag and served with vinegar and aioli - really delicious, but the pieces were awkwardly small - bigger florets would have worked better.
- Green Beans 'Nicoise': Our least favorite - perfectly edible, but not a standout.
- Pork Belly Banh Mini: Two pork belly "tacos" (served in little Vietnamese crepes) - our favorite dish of the night - lovely, perfectly balanced flavors.
Though it was certainly not the restaurant's fault, there was a large after-work party in the middle of the room that included one (drunk) woman who was screeching at high volume - and my bleeding eardrums, as a result, did detract from my experience. But we will definitely be back to try the rest of the menu - I'm particularly excited about the short rib French Dip.
