We had dinner here tonight. I had only been there for lunch once. If you sit outside in their little garden, you completely forget it is actually in an office building. The outdoor area is beautiful and comfortable.
I used OpenTable.com to make the reservation (which I am really enjoying using to make reservations, but that's another thread entirely)and were seated right away at a nice table right at the edge of the garden area. We were given menus and bread (no water), but no one came to take a drink order so after 20 minutes, my husband went to talk to the manager. The manager came over and took our drink order and then sent over a different waiter to tell us about the specials and take our order. Eventually the waitress who was supposed to service our table turned up 35 minutes after we had sat down and asked us if we wanted drinks. She obviously wasn't aware that someone else had already stepped in where she should have if she was doing her job properly. Makes me realize that if we hadn't spoken up we would have sat their for 35 minutes without so much as a glass of water.
We shared two appetizers: CALAMARI RIPIENI: calamari filled with a fresh mousse of salmon, shrimp, garlic and parsley served in a light spicy tomato sauce and SCRIGNO DORATO AL SAPORE DI BOSCO: grilled fresh portobello mushroom layered with Parma ham, Brie cheese, garlic and wrapped and baked in a homemade puff pastry. They were both excellent, the calamari was a little tough but then again, I guess it is supposed to be. Both beautifully presented.
For our mains we had: SPAGHETTI ALLA CARRETTIERA:
homemade spaghetti with porcini mushrooms, chicken sausage, green olives, sliced onions, in a ragout of veal and chicken in a light tomato sauce and TORTELLONI D'ARAGOSTA E SCAMPI: homemade tortelloni stuffed with lobster and shrimp in a saffron sauce. I found I preferred the spaghetti (the sauce was divine). The portions were a good size, the presentation not all that interesting.
We splurged on dessert and had GALEONE IN FUOCO:
thin layer of "pan degli angeli" with dark red morello cherries, covered with a delicious vanilla ice cream and topped with a meringue, baked and served flaming and SFOGLIATINA ALLA PERA: homemade sweet puff pastry filled with caramelized bosc pear and pastry cream served in a chocolate and cream sauce both beautiful in taste and presentation.
Even with a bad serving experience that improved, it was a terrific evening.
With two non-alcoholic beverages the total pre-tax was $75. Can't speak to the wine list as we aren't drinkers and I didn't look at it.
I do recommend this place and they have a cute private room for parties.
