Il Melograno - Excellent Italian in the 'burbs!

I have previously eaten lunch at Il Melograno and had wonderful pillow-like gnocchi in a rose meat sauce that were excellent. I recently had dinner there and was even more impressed. Started with an app of perfectly fried, tender Calamari Fritti. A HUGE helping that was enough for two with a wonderful marinara sauce. Followed this with Fettucine Bolognese, a HUGE plate of perfectly cooked pasta in a wonderful all veal meat sauce. Again, way too much for one person and I went home with enough for lunch for the next day.

Il Melograno is family run by wonderfully friendly people from the Puglia region of Italy. They have pictures of the conical houses native to their home town on the walls. They are not BYOB but have an extensive and reasonably priced wine list (including everything from Chianti to Tignanello and Ornellaia!). It is the best Italian food I've had in the suburbs and worth seeking out. Mercer Square Shopping Center, Doylestown (215) 348-7707 (Don't let the store front facade fool you, it's lovely inside).
