I've witnessed the incredibly long lines for Ike's Place and have read local PR blurbs recommending it as someplace "I must try". So was very excited to finally try the fare, unfortunately I was horribly disappointed. Read on and you'll see why.
- The Paul Reuben, had pastrami that was cut with the grain so it was chewy and the whole piece slid out of the sandwich with the first bite. In addition the meat was rimmed in fat and not in a good, marbled, way. The French dressing was sloppy and made the bread soggy after about 3 bites.
- The Tony Soprano had what I would best describe as a small tree in the sandwich. A dried, hardened oregano stick in the middle of the toppings. It looked a 3 inch resinous herb slingshot. And speaking of toppings, one bite would be on fire with a cluster of peppers, and then another smothered in mayo and nothing else.
I left wondering what all the hype was about. With the never-ending lines, the amazing press, and the $10 price tag I just want to know what happened to my order? They can't execute a tasty sandwich at an all-sandwich shop?
