We took advantage of our Entertainment Book deal for Hutch’s BBQ in Pasadena last night (buy one entrée, 2nd one free), and I’m happy to report that the dinner was quite good! This was my first visit to Hutch’s but I had heard some iffy comments about this place so wasn’t really sure what to expect. The waitress told us that the restaurant had been under new partnership for a couple years now and there were two chefs, one Jamaican and the other was Salvadoran, I believe. The menu had the “usual” BBQ items like baby back ribs, brisket, etc…but what really caught my attention was the curry goat. There was also an ox tail dish and an interesting fish stew on the menu. As luck would have it though, they ran out of the goat so I decided to go for the baby back ribs. You can choose two sides from a choice of three items that included garlic potatoes, red beans and rice, and vegetables. I got the latter two and the plate also came with some very garlicky, toasted bread. The ribs were quite flavorful and simply put, delicious! The bbq sauce was not too sweet and just the right amount was brushed on the meat which was very tender. My boyfriend ordered the Jerk chicken dish which I also thought was very good too. It was a pretty large portion, half a chicken I think, and the meat was tender and juicy. It had a nice, spicy kick to it without being too overwhelmingly hot. Our two dishes were around 18 dollars each so it’s not an inexpensive place but even without a coupon, I’d be willing to go back to Hutch’s and give the curry goat a try.
