Hungry Cat rocks

Mr Grub | May 5, 2005 01:32 PM

Dazed & confused in H’wood last nite, the Grubs found their way (not that easy as others have noted) to the Hungry Cat. Reports of this tiny place’s deliciousness are entirely accurate.

Oysters: half-doz Fanny Bays, half doz Mainers (name escapes me). Outstanding – even trumps Water Grill. Very fresh, meaty, &, most imptly, full of liquor. We sent our compliments to the shucker. Chorizo/clams soup-thing: terrific, too. Great combo of flavors in a zesty broth. Liquid sops up delightfully in the Cat’s amazing grilled Italian bread. Scallops carpaccio: also on-target. Sweet scallop flavor enhanced by the chili oil-based sauce. Lobster roll: yet another winner. 2d best lobster roll in Ol’ Man Grub’s experience (1st best was at a roadstand in rural Maine – somewhere). Just enuf mayo w a bit of peppery zing to hold the major chunks of lobster in the entirely authentic toasted white bread roll. Even at $22 a pop a bargain for the lobster roll enthusiast.

Whole deal, w btl of nicely matched muscadet, $100 (2 Grubs). When this cat is hungry again, he’ll be prowlin’ this funky pedestrian alley again for some more “fishies.”
