I'm embarrassed to ask this question; on the other hand, can I be the only person who is ready to eat meat but slightly queasy about unnecessary animal suffering? So: Are there any more or less approved, humane methods for slaughtering? If so, are there any butchers in Manhattan who carry humanely slaughtered meat? Short of that, are there any butchers who carry humanely raised meat? Does anyone know? In an ideal world, you'd have it all: a good butcher who saves backs and wings for you, and reasonably cheerful chickens.
