DAMN!!!! GF and I got an order of Hot Dougs duck fat french fries today for first time. He makes each order from scratch, each order taking ten or fifteen minutes. The fries are fresh cut, thin, but not shoestring thin. The duck fat lends a very mouth filling, round earthy flavor to the fries. Of note, Doug salts these things perfectly; enough for taste, then a tad extra to cut through the grease (or should I say the honorific greaZe)!!! Ok Ok, there is no grease, these things are crisp and well drained. :)
Also, I had a wonderful shrimp and pork sausage there last time.
I would suggest you let doug decide on the fixins, as I did last time for a large order of almost everything on his menu, and each sausage was fixed up perfectly. For example, the brat steamed (in beer?), onions, brown mustard. The shrimp and pork sausage grilled, brown mustard, and a wedge of pickle inside the split sausage! A surprise but it worked really well!
Hey, Doug can deep fry your dog for you if you feel like a rut's hut ripper faxcimile! Who the hell else deep fry's sausages in Chicago?
I love Hot Doug's. For anybody visiting from out of town, I would suggest you hit Superdawg and Hot Doug's for the best of Chicago's sausage offerings.
