Never been to Hop Li in Chinatown and heard great things on this board. I'm wondering if they are the same people.
Went to Arcadia first time today and had some surprisingly cheap dim sum. ($1.60 a plate Monday thru Friday). Do they have this special in Chinatown as well?
I'm not sure what the price is on the weekends.
All in all, very good. Not the best I've had but quality exceeds the price. Most were steamed dishes and I did not notice any deep fried items.
The freshly grilled taro cakes were outstanding with some minced shrimp or squid inside. 3 huge pieces. I'd get two orders of that next time. Reminded me of okonomiyaki.
Char siu bao was tasty. Soft bun with meaty pork inside. They have a glazed donut like version that I will try next time.
The sticky rice in banana leaf was very good.
The meatball was strange. I couldn't tell if I liked it or indifferent. It was not bad. My guess was it was ground pork marinated in soy with chunks of garlic and ginger and cilantro inside.
The congee soup was great. Tasty with chicken, maybe oyster, and other goodies.
Ordered a side of spinach and garlic ($6.25). Tasted good and garlicky but way too much salt. It tasted better when I took it home without the salty broth.
For 2 of us we ordered 8 dishes plus the Spinach and $1.50 for tea, it came out to $22.25.
