Hong Kong chowhound needs help in San Diego downtown area

hkdave | Sep 3, 2003 10:18 PM

I'm visiting San Diego from Hong Kong for biz this weekend, and am looking for interesting eats in the area near the convention center. I know it's StreetScene this weekend.

Not looking for anything fancy, just looking for non-touristy options within a couple miles (I'm on foot, but can walk far, or taxi if needed). I've been in this area before but haven't had much luck with matters chowish - beyond the cheap and reliable chorizo and eggs for breakfast at the YMCA coffee shop.

I'm looking for Mexican, BBQ, Korean, fish tacos, big old American breakfasts, cocktails large enough to swim in, giant slabs of US meat - bring it on! I'll also be spending a couple days with friends in San Clemente/Dana Point - any ideas in that area?

If you need recommendations in Hong Kong, Saigon, Bangkok, check out my posts over on the International board.

Thanks,
Hong Kong Dave
