capitol hill people, the I am sure doomed Pacific Cafe (vietnamese) next to Fragers serves EXCELLENT garlic spicy string beans. Have just finished off leftovers from last nights dinner: salty, spicey, not awash in sauce, fresh, crisp. I am staring at the remnants of the dish right now -- a large pile of thinly sliced hot chiles and roughly chopped fresh garlic -- too delicious to throw out but too spicy to eat without a pile of rice and 400 breath mints.
These have nothing to do with greenbeans in blackbean sauce or spicy string beans that you get at chinese restaurants.
I have had it 4 times; it only disappointed once. This is worth a side trip -- 6.95 for a dinner portion, which fed 2 of us as a side dish with leftovers. I'm thinking a couple of orders of this in take out as a crazy delicious side for a dinner party... Pick it up on your Sunday trip to Fragers...
I have searched the board without luck for Rita's. Anyone? WHere is this place, what kinda food? Marty?
( i fear doomed on Pacific Cafe because there is no foot traffic at night as it is marooned on the outer edge of the hill's commercial district. would that it had secured a space on the apparently resurgent 8th Street! I'd be there at least once a week. I sort of forget about it way out there...)
