My wife and teenaged daughter are zooming to Texas tomorrow for a long weekend escape from the snow and cold. Looking to soak up warmth and as much good Texas food -- bbq, Tex-Mex, chicken-fried steak, etc -- as we can handle. Our Hill Country plan is totally loose at this point. We'll be driving from Ft. Worth on Thursday afternoon, looking to take as scenic a drive as possible before landing someplace for a memorable dinner (figure we can find a decent place to stay not too far from where we end up). Then we'll have a day to explore. Looks to me like the best bbq joints are to the east of Austin, while the most scenic areas/towns are to the west. I know Hill Country is way too big for us to do/see/eat it all in the short time we have, just looking for some ideas on what to see/where to eat in the short time allowed. Thanks for any insight!
