E Harlem jaunt report

first, my find...
there's a tiny little booth, stuck on the side of a bodega, on the SE corner of 116th street and 2nd ave. the counter was lined with jars of fresh fruit (including watermelon, cantalope, kiwi), which they'll blend up with milk or water, a couple (gulp) tablespoons of sugar, a dash of what was probably cinnamon, a squirt of mystery liquid from a squirt bottle, and voila. delicious. and when they make far more than your cup holds, they whip out another cup to give you what's left.

from there we went to patsy's--i could see into the kitchen, so i'm not sure about the tips to see who's working to help guide what to order. the smokiness of the pie was interesting (is that from the coal?) and delicious. it was a yummy classic pie + the smoky twist, but the crust got soggy/chewy fast and i wasn't in love with the somewhat sweet sauce. i don't think the pie we got deserves a place in the difara's/grimaldi's stratosphere, but it's good, and much closer to me than deep brooklyn, and i'm happy to go back.
