They might be Uptown now, but brothers Paul and Mike DiCarlo won't abandon Old East Dallas.
Their landmark Jimmy's Food Store, at Fitzhugh Avenue and Bryan Street, burned in October. Since November, Jimmy's has operated out of the Sigel's in the Quadrangle. Paul DiCarlo notes that the mini-Jimmy's is more of a specialty store for Italian products, and thus it brings in a certain clientele. The original store was a neighborhood grocery.
Plans call for Jimmy's to reopen at the original location in about five months, he said.
"There's no way we could forget that neighborhood; we grew up with those people. That's why we're rebuilding," Paul DiCarlo said.
