Ended up at Hana Zen last night. Overall impression was "Eh." Nothing really to complain about, but nothing to get too excited about either. Ordered a selection of yakitori, sushi and shasimi off the menu. Most of it was well prepared and nicely presented and, individually, each of the dishes were fine, some even excellent, but overall it just didn't click.
Asparagus yakitori and softshell crab roll were both very good. Filet mignon and chicken yakitori sticks were cooked perfectly, but nothing was added to make them sing -- just meat on a stick. Some veggies, or at least an interesting marinade, would have been nice. Bacon wrapped scallops were overdone. Shashimi was very fresh.
Total bill for 2 came to about $100, about half of which was for drinks (2 glasses of wine and a bottle of sake). Can't say I was disappointed with the meal, but can't say I plan to go back any time soon, either.
