Restaurants & Bars 2

Had dinner there recently and am mixed about this place. Doubt I would go back b/c there's plenty other options out there.

Went on a Tuesday night w/o reservations. Was told that it'd be a 30 min wait for a table. (There were seats available at the bar area, but I opted out.) Ordered a drink at the bar and was told a table just freed up and was assured that it's okay to wait for my friend at the table. Was less than 5 min since I walked through the door.

Got a call on my cell. (The place was loud and no one else was sitting near me so it was ok.) Waitress interrupts to ask me if I was waiting for someone. She couldn't wait? She didn't seem like she belonged. She had an Applebees-esque vibe to her. She was really peppy... almost a little too much and came across as an airhead. She left us one menu and knelt down to take our order so she'd be at eye level. A big pet-peeve of mine. She was trying to be real friendly and made some comments, but they just rubbed me the wrong way.

Anyway, the food. It was average. I ordered the harami miso and asparagus and my friend the premium kalbi tare and mushroom. As I was eating, I was kinda wishing I was in ktown scarfing down some good korean bbq. The vegetable portions were teeny. I swear the mushrooms looked like it consisted of 3 mushrooms chopped up. I think the waitress was surprised we didn't need to order more food. She assured us we'd need to after we ordered.

For dessert, we shared the dorayaki ice cream. It came with 2 pancake like things, red bean paste and we chose the mango sorbet to go with it. They changed the grill so we can grill the pancakes. Forget how long but it was less than 10 seconds. Imo, made no difference. Just left some grill marks. Spread paste on pancake, scooped on sorbet and folded like a taco. Eh. You can get better stuff that's pre-packaged.

The bill came to $36 per person. 2 meats, 2 veggies, 2 drinks. +tax and tip. The amount of food was satisfying, not too filling. But much less than what I normally eat, but then again, I tend to over eat.

Stopped at beard papas for a cream puff. Read good reviews about the place. I'm not much of a cream puff fan and can't comment on how it ranks in the cream puff category, but it was tasty and a perfect end to my meal.
