Anyone try the new corner place on Northern Blvd. and about 194th Street in Bayside? Across the street and up the block from Pier 1? We've been major fans of Fonatana's and Gyro Corner on Francis Lewis for years, but the other night after some mediocre-satisfy-a-yen-no-time-to-get-to-Laziza-takeout-pastry from Oasis, we overheard a group of middle-aged Greeks talking about how they'd never even go to Fontana's again after the incredibly marinated chicken kebab and gyro at this new place whose name escapes me at moment, Gyro World perhaps?
Didn't think twice about it, but then today bumped into one of the Cavo owners in a supermarket and he asked me if I had tried it yet. When I said no, he told me I should rush there because it was such great chicken kebab. I'm not one to get too excited over something I can make easily at home, but now I'm starting to wonder about this place.
What, if anything, makes it so good? I'm not sure if this Fontana girl can be converted. I'd feel guilty even trying it out, although it does seem inviting what with the big doors and outdoor tables....
