Okay one more Guayaquil post. I had a great hole-in-the-wall dinner the other night at a place called Los Amigos de "J" on General Cordova, between Mendiburu and Tomas Martinez (Calles 6 and 7 SE). There are maybe 5 tables in the whole place, it was open to the street, and everyone in there seemed to know each other. We had some salchipapas with a homemade mayo, followed by the carne asada with rice and beans. The beans were creamy and delicious. The meat was thin and well done, but its flavor was phenomenal. After a few beers and some dancing at El Colonial around the corner, I could have eaten two. I highly recommend it for an inexpensive dinner and some fun people watching.
