So, I'm leaving the corporate world in SF and moving across the Bay to return to school at Berkeley! Very excited for the life change.
Will now be cooking much more with my two roommates, who will also be students, and looking for a number of different factors as we shop for food on our limited budgets. Will be trying to balance our need to save money with our desire that what we do spend money on is good quality. So I ask of you:
Where can we get the best prices on staple items like cereal, milk, crackers etc?
Where can we find the freshest produce?
Where can we get the best bread and pastries?
Who has the best meat?
Where can my Peruvian classmate find traditional South American ingredients so he can come over and cook for me?
Where can we find the best deals on wine/liquor?
Can anyone recommend a cookbook for someone who is woefully inadequate in the kitchen but is going to make a concerted effort to improve?
Thanks so much!
