yes, I know, I'm talking about a recipe but its mostly about the ingrediant and the where/when of buying it in Los Angeles, so there!
If anyone else sees green almonds at the Hollywood Farmer's market this sunday, I highly recommend they buy up a pound and make the recipe for the most delicious Persian lamb stew with green almonds that Jerome kindly provided to me last week. I think its posted on the Home cooking Board.
We made it on Monday and ate it on Tuesday. UMMMMMMMMM, good. The only sad thing is that green almonds apparently have a very short season limiting our opportunities to indulge for this year. FYI, nut trees in SoCal form shells much much earlier than France or Italy or Persia or all those other places with tasty receipes involving green nuts. If you can't find green almonds this weekend, you'll probably have to try Jerome's recipe next year.
We bought our green almonds at the Hollywood Farmer's market at the stand that specializes in potatos and other root veggies. Can't remember the name but they are on the parking lot side going up towards Hollywood blvd on the parking lot side of the street. He didn't have them last Sunday [we bought ours a week earlier] but said he should have more this week. If he doesn't have them, I guess we are all out of luck as I couldn't find any in the Persian markets on Westwood this week either.
