The recent thread on Greek restaurants inspired me to
make a reservation at Ithaka earlier this week.
What a lovely evening! The garden is charming (and
covered & airconditioned, the service was perfect and
the food delicious. They were willing to "customize"
my appetizer plate to include santziki, eggplant and
skordalia, (Serious garlic in the skordalia: 24 hour
dragon breath alert!) but then insisted I try their
taramosalata (no charge) to convert me. It was indeed
the freshest, lemoniest taramosalata I've ever had.
And the dolmades were actually delicious also. (These
often taste like wet cigar butts to me.)
We shared a second app of crunchy-crusted grilled
sausage which had a delectably coarse texture, and the
flavor of orange peel, served an a lemon-dressed
lettuce chiffonade. Delicious.
We then shared a grilled red snapper which was fresh
and good, if unexciting.
Also shared a syrup soaked almond cake with a
complimentary egg roll-shaped, custard filled phyllo
pastry thrown in for trying. Wish they'd been soaked
in honey instead of sugar syrup, but they were nice
Greek coffee - good to the last muddy drop.
