Just when we thought it was gone forever, Great Wall is open again. We attempted a visit on Saturday night, but they were hosting a wedding and closed to the public. We returned for dim sum on Sunday morning, and found it packed at 10:30. It appears that the west side Asian community has been missing this place as much as we have. There has not been any major redecorating; however, there is fresh paint and trim, and the fish tanks are no longer in evidence.
At dim sum we had the same service issues as always, but we cheerfully made forays to snag our own dishes of chili sauce and to refill water, and chased down elusive carts that kept running out of the dishes we wanted before they reached us. We acknowledge that their dim sum offerings cannot equal what you would find in San Gabriel Valley L.A., and perhaps are not even up to C Fu, but we live in Glendale and it's reasonably close and satisfying. (And frankly, we were underwhelmed on our last visit to C Fu.)
We'll be back in the evening soon to find out if our favorites are still on the menu and still the same -- for me, the duck soup with fun noodles, the ma po tofu, and the beef chow fun; for Jamie, the orange chicken; and for both of us, the pot stickers.
