I recently had the opportunity to eat at the Forbes Mill Steakhouse on North Santa Cruz in Los Gatos. I gotta give this place an A+ on all areas except for maybe price. The meal was so good however it seems like a value even though it is expensive.
I started with the roasted garlic soup, it was rich, smooth and complex. If you prefer a nice fresh salad the pear with Gorgonzola sald was incredible. The whole pear was deconstructed stuffed with salad and cheese and reassembled atop the rest of the dish. I chose the filet and my date the dry aged NY steak. It was a toss up, they were both perfect, and I'm not a NY guy. The accompaniments, while simple, were prepared with equal skill. We shared the Au Gratin potatoes and asperagus hollandaise. Be sure to save room the the sampling of desserts. You get 4 little jewels of exquisitly prepared finales. On this platter we received a white chocolte brule, lilliquoi cheesecake, choclate decadence, and a apple tart tatin, all lavishly presented.
The service followed suit. The servers and expediters had food to the table, water glasses filled and wine topped off at all times. The server zipped the table clean with a crumber as often as possible, I think he was showing off his fancy technique and all our questions were answered and needs were met. Even though they were busy we never felt rushed and were able to spend time enjoying the evening. A truly memorable meal.
