Great Prospect Hts. Caribbean - Jerk Lamb (!)

Just wanted to share an amazing birthday dinner I had last week - a little (*really* little) place called The Islands, on Washington Avenue near Eastern Parkway (very near the Brooklyn Museum). Mostly takeout, but there are four or so tables up a rickety staircase which, with lights low and candles lit, was quite romantic. Definitely not upscale, but charming.

We only had two entrees (I'll remedy that soon), but both were fabulous: garlic shrimp, tender and with just the right balance of flavors, and best of all, jerk leg of lamb. I've had a fair amount of good jerk chicken in my life, but never lamb - it was exquisitely tender and the perfect medium for a moderately spicy jerk (not scorching, but deep). Served with rice and peas (which I'm partial to) and plaintains. I'd also recommend the rum bread pudding. The place is owned and operated by two sisters, with a daughter waiting tables. *Very* reasonable - a large serving of the lamb was $10.00...
