Just want to make a note here that if people have not yet discovered the Terra Cotta Pasta Co. on Cottage St. in S. Portland, you should make it a point to get there and support this place. The homemade pastas are so delicious, wonderful egg pastas that cook to perfection in just a couple of minutes in boiling water (I will never purchase that chaulky tasting, overpriced "fresh" pasta from Whole Foods again--thank you Terra Cotta!). We go there often and buy bags of the linguini or fettucini--we use them right off or freeze them until our next trip there. They also make lasagna pasta and various raviolis with interesting fillings (incl. lobster). We make our own sauces mostly, but for those who don't or who just want a quick meal, they do sell various fresh pasta sauces as well, all made by them (mushroom, alfredo, marinara, puttanesca, etc.). They also have a small but very nice selection of cheeses, a couple of great salamis (we love the smallest one, a delicious hard salami that I am told comes from Brooklyn), good wine, a nice selection of take out foods (great for dinner to go). They sell baguettes from Standard Baking, too, and in the summer, they carry local tomatoes. While I have not tried everything they have, I just want to get it out there to Portland foodies (and for our visitors) that this little store is a gem, a great asset to our fine (and growing) culinary community.
