A not-so-great food experience at Eggspectations in Silver Spring

Just when I thought I'd fallen inextricably in love with the food at Eggspectation in downtown Silver Spring, I had an experience last Saturday which proved disappointing. I had ordered my favorite Chesapeake Benedict - Eggs Benedict on top of lump crabmeat - with spinach in the Benedict, soft-fried bacon instead of the delicious roasted potatoes they serve (No, I'm not on South Beach!) and Hollandaise sauce on the side. The eggs were cooked perfectly medium-soft as requested, the spinach and crab tasted good but the Hollandaise sauce was nearly cold and the bacon was cooked to a crisp. However, the friendly, capable service, particularly from my server Alex, the good, freshly-squeezed orange juice and the nice-Starbucks quality coffee made up for those substandard components of the Benedict. Note: previously I've had bacon cooked just to my liking and nice, toasty Hollandaise sauce plus other good things that I hope this was an isolated experience. I will return there and advise anybody who would enjoy a fun, family experience at a restaurant that serves very good crepes (savory and sweet) and twelve kinds of Eggs Benedict to give Eggspectations a try. It is better than most of the chains in that part of downtown Silver Spring.

Eggspectation is located at 923 Ellsworth Drive behind the historic AFI Silver Theater. Phone #(301) 585-1700.
