A great experience at Blackie's House of Beef

My husband and I went to Blackie's House of Beef for dinner last night (they were participating in Restaurant Week) and had a terrific time. Not only did they have the RW menu, but they also have a pre-theater menu with more choices (right now available between 5:30 and 7:00 pm but soon they'll be offering it all evening) and only $2 more. The decor and the service made you think you were in one of the grand, venerable steakhouses of old (like Delmonico's in New York City. Blackie's IS quite old and venerable in the restaurant world, having been around for 55 years) and the food matched it in terms of being very high quality. I got the pre-theater menu and had the shrimp appetizer, just $5 extra and worth it - a riff on shrimp cocktail and shrimp ceviche with a tomato/papaya/avocado salad. Delicious... Followed that with the house ribeye steak, $10 extra, excellently cooked to order and flavorful. Finally, the dessert I chose was an apple tart tatin which was yummy and not too filling with a cream/caramel/strawberry coulis. If you get on Blackie's website: blackiesdc.com you can print out a $25 gift certificate which you can use on the pre-theater menu. I highly recommend this place.
