I celebrated my dear friend's birthday last evening at Globe Bistro. We had a lovely meal that was reasonably priced. The birthday girl had the spinach salad with blue ermine and the crispy pickerel with a frothy green sauce. They were both was outstanding. I had the special soup (heirloom tomato with goat cheese). My main was the special, " the best of Canadian ingredients" which was a maple marinated alaskan black cod with caramelized onions and mushrooms. It was fabulous and a very generous portion. The delicious bread came hot from the oven and was served with spicy chumus.
The wine list was very comprehensive with at least ten choices each of whites and reds by the glass. She had a lovely Macon Villages; I had a Joaquin Vineyards petite syrah that was very complex yet smooth.
We were seriously too full to try dessert, but will definitely go back. We looked at the bar menu and would like to have bar food and dessert next time.
I had made the reservation through the Globe Bistro which directed me to open table. On the reservation I had indicated that it was friend's birthday. I had completely forgotten about the notation, but when we arrived the hostess asked who made the reservation. I never clued in why she asked (my brilliant friend did later). As a very nice touch, the waiter brought over a complimentary glass of dessert wine to the celebrant!
The Globe Bistro is a real winner!
