Grand Cafe and R&G Lounge

WLA | Feb 8, 2005 05:25 PM

So you all pretty much warned me about the Grand Cafe, but I had to go and find out for myself. First the highs, pretty room, friendly and competent service and comp'ing our drinks due to an anniversary opentable reservation note.

Lows, the food. Except for my mussels and fries it was bad to worse. The mussels were at least edible. The foie gras three ways was so bad that it made my horrible venison in a reduction that was so strong that it overpowered the mealy venison, thank my lucky stars. Actually bit that I am thinking about it my wife's main was another saving grace, a double thick pork chop which was perfectly cooked and very tender and juicy. The sides of mashed potatoes and red cabbage were pretty normal but passable.

Our dinner at R&G Lounge at 631 Kearny was wonderful stuff. We had clams in black bean sauce, lobster in special sauce, (especially slippery out for flying lobster pieces over there) and a beef dish that was addictively good along with mixed fried rice. Anyone want our $25 discount coupon good until April? First email takes it. Email me at wla101101ataoldotcom and I will mail it to you.

Thanks again for your warnings. I will fully heed them in the future visits to your fair city.
