Went to Grain de Sel on Ste Catherine East (near D-Iberville). Fine meal. The entrees (calamar, salads, beets with double cream feta) were excellent. The main plates of boudin and fish and chips (off their 'classic plate" menu were also very good. The service was superb. The amuse bouche was wonderful melt in your mouth.
I am wondering why this restaurant isn't mentioned often here. Yes, it is a bit out of the way (though the area looks like it is up and coming as there are conversions coming of a monastery nearby?). We went there once before for lunch and it was superb as well. Only (small)quibble was that the desserts weren't the same quality, but they were tasty. (a table adjacent had a chocolate bread pudding that they told us was superb).
The place was only 3/4 full on a Saturday night (and we were able to reserve the day of). Wondering if it is location that is why it is not mentioned as often on this site? It is also rated highly on tripadvisor
and we think it is one of the best at its price range (around 50 dollars per person including wine). (The menu changes regularly).
