Recently we had lunch at Touch of Hungary in College Point (121-17 14th Rd., 762-3435) and were extremely pleased with everything. Goulash soup was the only item which was merely good - the meat was slightly tough, and it lacked a certain complexity.
The breaded pork cutlets, mashed potatoes, and stuffed cabbage more than made up for it. Everything was simply perfect. I'm sure the actual goulash would have been a wiser choice than the soup.
The best parts were not having to drive to Danbury, and not having to listen to Magdi(?) through the ENTIRE MEAL. I think anyone who has been to the Goulash House knows what I'm talking about.
Anyway, I just went to the website - touchofhungary.com - and noticed that they are now serving lunch only on Sunday, and opening at 4 the rest of the week. They got a write-up in New York mag., but they said they're struggling in spite of that. The neighborhood people aren't giving it a try; all their customers come from elsewhere. GO! It's very good and they're such sweet people.
