I am want to know if you think this event that I am starting is a good idea or not. I know that the critical thoughts of chowhound would be useful. Let me know!
I had done months of research trying to find a food and wine "club" to join. Basically, all of the options are either too expensive, too stuffy, too fluffy, too focused on wine versus food, or have some sort of ridiculous membership fee that needs to be paid in addition to the cost of attending each event.
So, I figured I could start my own monthly food and wine event, yet to be named. The events will feature a five course "small plate" tasting menu highlighting the highest quality, seasonal ingredients at their peak. The menu will focus on combining innovative, unique ideas with classical Italian and French preparation techniques. Interesting and high quality wines will be paired with each dish.
The event will be held at an intimate but spacious loft in Soho. The cost would be about $80-$90 per person. I've found that people can't really find an event like this that is informal, fun, and affordable. Events like this start in the early hundreds, and if you tried to do this at a restaurant, it would be a bank breaker.
