Even with the mixed reviews on this board, Slanted Door was always one of those places we wanted to try but could never get in.
We've never planned ahead enough to get a reservation when we tried and it was always jammed packed. The people inside sure looked like they were having fun, however!
We stopped by at 6:30 this Sat. night and were surprised that they could seat us right away (their first reservation opening was 10 days away).
The service was friendly, helpful and very attentative.........I think my glasses were refilled every time I took a sip. Our waiter gave us great recommendations and we were thrilled to have followed them all.
We had oysters, prawn/pork spring rolls with a mint/peanut dipping sauce and the soft shelled crab appetizer (interesting presentation as it was deep fried and served with lettuce leaves for wrapping with a different peanut style sauce).
We split the Duck Breast (perfect), the Steamed whole Rock Cod with soy, scallions and fresh ginger (sauce was a bit salty but the ginger offset nicely....it was not my favorite but I'm glad I tried it) and the ever so sweet sugar snaps.
Our waiter advised us against the caramelized tiger prawns as he eyed my white shirt and noted they would be quite messy. My cleaning bill thanked him for the consideration.
The very yummy Dark chocolate Marquise came with a candle on top for my birthday. No singing, thank you very much!!
I was surprised to see how casual the place was considering how hard it is to get in.The great views added to the upbeat feel. I consider it just the right amount of celebration for the occasion. We'll try our luck again.
