Good Eats in Hammonton, NJ

If you're passing through or live in the area, there are two places of note that I've found so far -- both on Main Street/Rt. 54. The first is Bagliani's Italian Market. This is a small supermarket with a small but good selection of Italian specialties and cheeses. What made me stop was the sign that said they make their own sausage. I got several varieties, include one with broccoli rabe. Very good fresh sausage. They also sell pre-made bracciole that you can take home and cook. Well worth the stop if you're in the area.

The other place, also on Main Street, is Marcello's Pizzeria and Restaurant. I stopped in for a slice and got two -- they had at least a dozen to choose from, including a tomato pie. The first was a tomato, fresh mozz and spinach on a medium crust. The toppings were flavorful and fresh and the crust was of medium thickness with a nice crisp/crunch and good flavor to it. The second slice was a stuffed cheesesteak pizza with a thin crust. I know, heresy --both from a cheesesteak and pizza standpoint. I wouldn't normally try it but it had just come out of the oven and I'm a sucker for about anything that's just come out of the oven. It was really good and was more like eating a cheesesteak than a pizza, served with a basic red sauce on the side. Really good flavor and meat. I'd get it again. They only make that on Fridays. It's a nice clean place with a full, standard Italian menu and an all you can eat lunch buffet on Wednesday.
