My mother, sister, and I were in Vancouver for a day. By the time we were hungry (time changes were impacting us), my mother wanted to hit a couple of pubs she had read about in one of our many travel guides. I was a bit skeptical as I had a list of restauant recommendations from friends and chow to pick from. Luckily, they both overruled me and we had a delightful time at Six Acres and Alibi Room. Both Mom and sis like beer but I'm a cider person. At Six Acres we were seated upstairs, had good service, and good nibbles to go along with our drinks. Alibi was slightly different, a younger crowd, and they had beer flights. Unfortunately, we had so many nibbles at Six Acres we weren't that hungry by the time we got to Alibi but the food we saw going past looked fantastic. There was a slight wait at Alibi but we got our drinks in short order and settled in. Both places seemed to have good crowds and didn't give off that "I'm here to see and be seen" or "I'm cool b/c I drink here" vibe.
Either way, having my 60+ year old ma suggest a pub crawl on her first time out of the US is definitely a memory I'll take with me!
