I had dinner last night at Michael's on Main in Soquel. The place is charming. We were seated in a pretty dining room with a fire place at one end and our table was next to a wall of windows that overlooks woods. There's a back deck that should be great if it ever warms up again.
The service was efficient and personal. The food was good. Not great but really good. My son had an excellent house salad, followed by salmon baked in mint vinaigrette, covered with mashed artichoke hearts and served over mashed potatoes with excellent lightly sauteed vegetables on the side. We both enjoyed it. I started with a delicious grilled vegetable salad, then had linguine with seafood, which I thought was OK but less successful. The shrimp were perfectly done and the salmon was delicious, but the mussels were way too small. Also I like pasta al dente, which this wasn't and the sauce was mainly about garlic.
The wine list was local, well chosen, and moderately priced. In fact, one of the cool things about Michael's is the prices, which are incredibly reasonable. I've been let down more than once by restaurants "over the hill," but Michael's did not disappoint.
