I've been on the hunt for a great chile relleno in the Ventura County areas ( Westlake Vlg, Thousand Oaks, Moorpark, Simi Valley, etc) Most chile rellenos I come across aren't stuffed with the right cheese or are a little bland. I also like a fluffy coating of egg batter. It's so sad when there is little to no batter on my relleno. A mild sauce with peppers and onions to coat makes me happy. Anyone?
Don Cucos (Simi and Moorpark): three out of five stars.
Corrales (Ventura): three out of five stars. Not fluffy enough
Vallarta Market (Oxnard): two stars. soggy, cold/hard cheese inside. boo.
Cisco's (Thousand Oaks): three and a half. almost too eggy and not flavorful enough.
El Torito (Several locations): Bleech. two measly stars. it's a little sweet, why?
