who does the best gnocchi in town?
when i was younger my first gnocchi experience was an aberration. hard, sour and soaked in a bland cream sauce. then someone tried to convince me that gnocchi was actually just a pasta shell to be filled with flavoured potato concoctions.
i knew there was better out there and have selectively chosen to try gnocchi again on a few occassions. i did eat the gnocchi by the chef at george and wasn't that impressed. it fell to mush in my mouth and the sauce was ratatouille like in it's consistency and taste which seemed to act more like a topping to the gnocchi than a smothering sauce.
since then, via oliveto has won over my heart with their in-house gnocchi. perfect little pillows in a tomato based pancetta leek sauce. amazing amazing amazing. i sit up nights just thinking about it.
now, i ask you, are there any other contenders out there?
