in today's globe...

But just off Tremont, on the tip of Aguadilla Street, the little yellow-stuccoed Miami Cafe breaks the mold. Merengue music floats out from the propped-open door. Customers wander out munching crispy $1 empanadas stuffed with juicy, shredded meats. Inside, behind the walk-up counter, the blender roars as tropical fruit shakes ($3.50) are mixed to order. And at the handful of tables in the no-frills space, diners fill up on hearty, homey feasts of Dominican, Puerto Rican, and Cuban fare.
