My mother recently passed away and my father has been giving a lot her of Japanese books and foods to her friends. Just the other day he took some books and cookies to one of their friends. He came home with a bag of satsumas. Another time he took over a bag of glutinous rice, and came home with a container of kimchi. For as long as I can remember, my mother and her Japanese friends have had this habit of exchanging food items. Sometimes, it's specialty food items, sometimes things they have cooked, or sometimes just things they just happen to have around. I don't know if it's a cultural or generational thing. It's kind of funny. Do you or do you know others who do this?
